How can we make future urban interventions more in sync with the citizens’ needs? In what ways can citizens themselves contribute to the spatial changes they want to see in their cities? During Urban Observations city-walks, citizens are invited to use tags, textual comments, photographs, suggestions and votes to articulate their views on a particular urban surrounding. The participants can add thoughts on how urban places can be improved, or they can immerse themselves in the information on their urban surroundings mapped by others. As representatives of the KinderUni Technik 2024 and WIENXTRA Volunteer Week 2024, more than 270 school pupils and individuals have taken part in the Urban Observations 2024. Its interactive dashboard visualizes urban experiences and turns individual insights into collective, actionable knowledge. By turning the layers of interest on, everyone can receive a real-time and personalized image of their surroundings.
