SPECULATIONS OF THE CITY: REFLECTIONS ON PLATFORM URBANISM

After over six months of discursive exchange in and beyond the boundaries of WE LIKE – PLATFORM AUSTRIA, a commemorative finissage event marked the concluding phase of Austria’s contribution to the Biennale Architettura 2021: Speculations of the City – Reflections on Platform Urbanism.

In this public discussion, Vyjayanthi Rao and Pedro Gadanho, thinkers engaged in curatorial studies of the city on a global scale, conversed with Peter Mörtenböck and Helge Mooshammer to bring to conclusion the many strata of WE LIKE – PLATFORM AUSTRIA and its formal realisation.

Reflecting on the speculative nature of platforms and the ethos of productivity that accompanies their proliferation, the speakers considered the impact of these layers of ‘fore-telling’, which continually shape how cities are produced, and the way we study them. These analyses gestured towards concluding remarks for Hashim Sarkis’s urgent key question: How Will We Live Together?
